Advent 2020

Our Celebrations

The Advent season has arrived!  We are celebrating the season with new traditions as we adapt to the changes all around us.

Instead of our traditional activities in church and with the Church community, we hope that we can bring meaning and joy in a safe way this year!

Advent Devotions

Advent is a time for waiting and discipline and it is quite appropriate that we use our discipline to keep each other safe by scaling back our most joyous celebrations as you see fit.

It’s time to dust off our Advent wreaths as we prepare for the holiday season.

Don’t have an Advent wreath, no problem!  Bring the greens into your home by taking a nature walk and collecting evergreen branches, pinecones, and other interesting items.

Faithful Families for Advent and Christmas: 100 Ways to Make the Season Sacred by Traci Smith

Reviewed by Lauren G. Cochran

“This book is God’s gift to parents, pastors and Christian education directors for Advent 2020. Can it be used in church, at home, virtually and in combinations of all the above? Check, check and check! Traci Smith gives abundant options for people of all ages to incorporate faith into the craziness that is Advent in tangible, creative and meaningful ways. Each chapter has a short introduction, multiple activities and several prayers to tie it all in a bow. Nothing requires a big hunt for elusive or expensive craft materials, and unlike so many resources currently available, the theology used is progressive and doesn’t leave the reader with a bad taste in their mouth.

Activities and Features

We regret that so many lovely traditions of Advent and Christmas are being altered due to COVID-19, but we accept these appropriate modifications, in order to show our love, for God’s children.
